Education is the future.
- Since 2012 we, Carolin Hoffmann and Larissa Zwingel, have been committed to the children and learning centre “Home for Hope” in Ghana with almost 200 benefitting children
- In 2014 we founded the charitable foundation“Home for Hope” parallel to being university students. The foundation is the roof of this project, and since then we have been acting voluntarily as the board of directors and coordinating the project work in Germany and locally in close cooperation with our project director and other 25 local employees in Ghana
- The goals are to support the children in their individual strengths and to enable each of them to have an independent future
- The project is financed exclusively by donations and grants. Due to the fact that we and our network of supporters work on a voluntary basis in Germany, these funds arrive almost completely in Ghana
All about the foundation
Our legal form is a trust foundation and we are administered pro bono by DT Deutsche Stiftungstreuhand. Everything related to the project, fundraising and public relations is worked out and carried out by the Board of Directors.
Today, Deutsche Stiftungstreuhand looks after more than 1,500 donors and foundations of private individuals, companies and the public sector. The establishment of supervisory bodies at the level of the donor communities is firmly anchored in the Deutsche Stiftungstreuhand.
The State of Ghana
Ghana is a country in West Africa that has been democratically consolidated to a large extent. With an area of 239,460 square kilometres, it is almost the size of the Federal Republic of Germany. Over 28 million people of different religions and ethnicities live in Ghana. Geographically, it borders Togo to the east, Burkina Faso to the north and the Ivory Coast to the west. It is therefore often referred to as the heartland of West Africa. The capital and at the same time the administrative and political centre is Accra and the adjoining port city of Tema enables export and import by sea.
Home for Hope Preparatory School
At the moment, the future of children is the focus of our work. In May 2016, work began on building the Home for Hope Preparatory School on the project site. Four classrooms were completed and equipped by the end of 2016. Another 4 classrooms and 6 toilets are currently under construction.
The school is growing and thriving. In addition to the 25 children from the orphanage, 150 children from the surrounding villages are now also students of the “Home for Hope Preparatory School”.
